TEXT: Matthew 24:36-44

Sean O’Connell said, “The most neglected theme in the modern church is the theme of judgment. The second most neglected theme is the theme that the church shall be judged: ‘judgment must begin at the household of God.’ The third most neglected theme is the theme that the individual Christian shall stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give an account for what he has done. Other than a few short lines in a few verses, the emphasis Jesus gives in our text to his second coming is not that of salvation but of judgment.”

From this parable, we have talked about the importance of keeping the house of our bodies and our minds free from sin in light of the suddenness of the Lord’s coming. We have also talked about the importance of keeping the house of our families which the devil is actively trying to destroy.

Today, we are looking at the importance of keeping another house — the Lord’s house. Jesus said, “If the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched… Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
