Our key Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:13: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
TEXT: Colossians 3:23-24: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
In these verses, Paul reveals the manner in which believers should work. Working is good, but it is even better if the work is done with the right heart, attitude, and spirit. What should be the attitude of the believer when working? The believer should work “heartily.” The Greek word translated as “heartily” is psü-khāy’ or psychē. Nearly 100 times in the New Testament, this word is rendered “soul” or “life.” This is the only time it is translated “heartily.” It means: breath, the breath of life, the vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing; that in which there is life.
