TEXT: Genesis 28:10-14
We meet Jacob, son of Isaac and grandson of Abraham, at a desperate moment in his life. Following the cunning advice of his mother Rebekah, Jacob has just capitalized on his theft of his older twin brother Esau’s birthright. He has tricked his aged father Isaac into bestowing on him the special blessing reserved for the first born. His brother Esau is furious and determined to kill Jacob. Rebekah advises Jacob to run away to her family members until Esau’s anger has passed. Isaac, since he cannot take back the blessing of the firstborn, blesses Jacob again and sends him off to Padanaram to his wife’s family.
